The minor named Ramirez, revealed details of the abuse to a nun which prompted the cleric to first admit to the crime, before fleeing the country, asserting that the minor who according to him is "evil", initiated the sexual relations.
In the absence of the priest, Ramirez filed a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Newark, holding it responsible for not protecting him from the gross misconduct of the priest after he confided in him by telling him of his confusion regarding his sexual orientation.
Espinoza who is currently in Ecuador, in a bid to escape arrest, has only apologized for hurting his church by having sexual relations with a minor on the church grounds.
He has been suspended from his ministry.
