Construction workers who did not know what had happened built a road over him the following morning in the district of Katni in Madhya Pradesh state in central India.
However they got to find out about what transpired when residents found the man’s shirt and pulled his lifeless body out of newly-constructed road.
Police however said that when the man fell into the hole, he apparently slept off and when the labourers resumed the following day, they filled the hole with molten tar and used a heavy roller to flatten the surface but the man’s shirt was spotted and his body was pulled out of the newly laid road two days later.
Sub-inspector NP Chaudhary said: “His body has been sent for Post-mortem and further investigation is in process.”
The man named Latori Lal, had gone to a village fair and was heading home after visiting a liquor shop, the Times of India said.
A driver and a road worker have been arrested. Further investigations are been made.
